There are plenty of things that Christians can disagree about. But when it comes to doing the tasks given by God, there can be little disagreement. The orders don't come from those who execute, but from God, Himself. His Word (the Bible) is complete. The specifics are communicated through the Holy Spirit - and that is often discerned through prayer. Once these directives are understood, a dialogue may take place - through prayer as well. When agreement is reached, action can take place. This works for everything a church does. This applies to every local church, small or large.
The church, according to this passage, can be as small as two or three people - if they are in agreement. Why is agreement important? Jesus says, "if two of you agree on earth concerning anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in Heaven." This points to a few important truths.
- When people agree, God listens
- When people gather in Jesus' name, Jesus joins
- When people who agree gather, Jesus joins and God listens
By the way, the church is the body of Christ. Where Christ is, there is His body as well. Where Jesus is, God is listening. So it stands to reason that the church is the means by which God accomplishes His will on earth - and all the power of Heaven is unleashed to do the will of the body of Christ! When the church prays in agreement, Christ is there agreeing also. What Christ wants, Christ gets - because Christ always and only wants the will of God. God's people cannot agree unless they all agree that a matter is the will of God. Those with the mind of Christ want what God wants. Their prayers will be answered when they agree!
Will YOU be a prayer warrior with your church? Seek the Lord, and encourage others to join you. When agreement is reached, watch what the Lord will do!
