Today is St. Patrick's Day. I'm not certain exactly HOW the drunken orgies surrounding St. Patrick's Day parades came to be, but I am sure that nearly all things Christian eventually seem to erode into something wholly unholy. St. Patrick, with all of his faults, was NOT a leprechaun. He was a missionary to Ireland. He was saved OUT OF his sin, not prisoner to it. And what does "pinching" someone not wearing green have to do with it, anyway? Why can't we just celebrate the truth instead of turning the lies into the celebration?
Yesterday, Jane and I became Grandparents!!! Our daughter Lisa Sewell gave birth to her firstborn, Elijah Palmer Sewell. The labor was long, painful, and exhausting - for mother, father, and Grandmother. Damon, my son-in-law, was absolutely fantastic as he supported his beloved bride through this process. Now, they share the sense of the unknown as it applies to parenting - that awesome responsibility that relies so much on the help of the Lord! So, for twenty-four years, Jane and I have seen how the Lord provides, protects, and preserves us all as we raised Lisa, we've also delighted in every new stage of parenting along the way - including becoming Grandparents! We are so proud of Damon and Lisa in their marriage. We expect no less in their parenting. But their learning curve is great. God will certainly be there to lead them all the way. Love watching our kids as they become adults. And so, Jane and I enter a new level of "adulting" - grandparenting!
Switching gears to the growing nonsense in the world today. News came out of a man who is a woman giving birth to a baby while being married to a woman who is a man. (1) Will that child understand? I sure don't. But I have a Biblical worldview. And I'm hugely in the minority for that: George Barna reports today that only 4% of Millennials actually hold a biblical world-view. (2) Sure am glad our children hold a biblical worldview. As a grandparent, I continue to join the battle. Our grandchildren won't be as confused as the poor baby above.

With a world changing as quickly as ours, it's pretty good to have something certain to count on - the unchanging Word of God. And when it says that those who trust God's Word will be blessed forever, that blessing must NOT be some material, earthly blessing. Glad that there are better things ahead for me! I only pray that you will also experience that confidence and assurance of the biblically promised future. If you do, will you rely on the Word of God for how you live today?
