What do you do? Decorate eggs? Read the Bible story? Or do you wait until Easter Sunday to get ready for church? Is it the Sunday you make a special effort to go to church? What is Easter to you?
To me, the theological meaning is all-important. I mean, it's the time I look back (through time to the events of 2,000 years ago) to remember to look up (in hopes of the return of Christ) in order to look forward (to His return) to the certain hope that I find (that I will forever be with Him) as I look inward where I see the Lord living in me! That's a mouthful - and a heart full!
This year, Easter is particularly special for me. As a new Grandpa, Easter represents the hope that God's not done, yet. He's still there for little Eli to get to know Him. It's also special because our church gets to host the annual Community Sunrise Service - and I get to preach the message! It's also the time to see many of you whom I haven't seen in quite a while! So, Easter, to me, is worth "Gettin' Ready For!"
So what will I be doing to "Get ready" for it? Well, there's the usual church stuff - pastor stuff, really. You know, planning, advertising, announcing, and the like, for all the activities. But there's also the inner time of meditation and anticipation of what is to come. There's also stuffing plastic eggs for the Community Easter Egg hunt, and the whole "spring" thing that comes as the flowers and trees bloom, the weather bounces from warm to cold (kind of like it's been doing all winter, really). But the fellowship with the Lord is special, too, as I prepare for Easter - spiritually! What a time of communion I get to have with Him! I only wish that Easter could be the day He comes back so we all could see Him! Well, there you have it. I'm Gettin' Ready for Easter!
